Jaipur: Dr. Mohammed Shoaib, Secretary of the Rajasthan PCC, and Dr. Samra Sultana, Member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, held a crucial meeting with former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at his Jaipur residence on 11th September 2024. The meeting focused on the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, which has raised significant concerns among minority communities.
Dr. Shoaib and Dr. Samra Sultana conveyed the potential negative impacts of the bill, stressing that it could severely undermine the protection and management of Waqf properties, which are essential for community welfare and religious institutions. Dr. Shoaib highlighted that the proposed amendments violate constitutional principles and called for the bill’s immediate withdrawal.
In a memorandum presented by Dr. Samra Sultana, she emphasized that the bill directly contradicts the Indian Constitution. She further elaborated on how its enactment would disproportionately affect minority communities by eroding their rights over Waqf properties, which are integral to supporting education, healthcare, and social welfare.
Ashok Gehlot listened attentively to their concerns and assured them that he would carefully review the matter, extending his full support in addressing their grievances and ensuring justice.
